Highly Charged Ions for High-Resolution Soft X-ray Grating Monochromator Optimisation

Abstract The energy-resolving performance of a synchrotron radiation monochromator can be characterised by measuring the fluorescence response gas in scans across characteristic absorption lines. Here, we describe method using exceptionally narrow features soft x-ray range. belong to helium-like ions and examples transition 1s → 2p O 6+ Ne 8+ are shown. We instrument PolarX-EBIT show typical data. A with ten times sharper effective feature width, when compared neutral-gas features, is demonstrated.
